Hail Shields

Hail ShieldsDuring those fierce storms, is your home or car protected from the hailstones? Most of us can say they are protected by insurance. Although this is true, it may not be the best option for your highly priced property. One of the best ways to tackle this problem is to have a hail shield. This is easy to install, remove and you can also keep it in your car trunk when not in use. There are various hail shield designs but one of the most common is made of multiple layers of strong shock absorbing materials to provide strength and maintain its shape.

The outer layer of the shield can be made of two or three layers of high-density polythene mesh layered with close cell foam to make a two or three-ply covering material respectively. The top part of the hail shield is made of two rectangular pieces joined on their longest edges. The sides are trapezoidal shaped and joined to the top part through sewed but reflexive joints. The top of the hail shield and the car roof have a space in-between, which acts as a spring for the shield. To enhance security of attachment to your car the shield grips the body of the car through the reflexive joints, an elastic cord also passes all round the shield. The hail shield also has attaching straps to secure it to holes in the vehicle such as wheel wells, the front or rear bumper.

Another type of hail shield is made of a flexible cover but with an air blower to supply it with air up to a preset pressure level. This operates in a similar way to a hovercraft and can cover various types of vehicles. It is attached to the vehicle using straps. Apart from protecting your car from hailstones, the shield also has other advantages such as protecting the vehicle from falling objects and saves you the hassles of insurance or reduces the amounts you pay as premiums since your vehicle cannot be damaged. Since the hail shield can be stored in your vehicle trunk you can conveniently carry it with you wherever you go.
